🌱🔬 Learning Beyond the Classroom! Mrs. Kovach’s 7th Grade Science classes are putting their new Greenspaces to work! Thanks to the IU Innovation Grant and Ready to Learn Grant, students now have an outdoor learning environment where they can apply science concepts in an authentic setting. Students are currently completing a measurement lab aligned with the new Pennsylvania STEELS Standards, with an emphasis on environmental science, scientific literacy, measurement, and real-world problem solving. Rather than simply reading about measurement and environmental systems, students are collecting data, making observations, communicating their findings, and using evidence to better understand the environment around them. 🌎📏📊 These Greenspaces are providing students with opportunities to connect science, literacy, engineering, and the natural world—turning our school grounds into an extension of the classroom! 🌿💚 #BAMS #7thGradeScience #STEELSStandards #EnvironmentalScience #ScienceLiteracy #OutdoorLearning #Greenspace #HandsOnLearning #IUInnovationGrant #ReadyToLearnGrant

Congratulations to Brownsville Area Middle School student, Gabriella Gudac!

The National Civics Bee® is an annual non-partisan competition that inspires young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Students respond to a 4-question essay prompt proposing ideas to improve their communities. Those who have their essays chosen advance to regional competitions to compete for trophies, prizes, and recognition. The top 3 winners from each regional competition advance to the State Finals. One finalist from each state receives a trip to the National Championship to compete for big prizes.

Gabriella Gudac had her essay judged by a panel of judges using a structured rubric that emphasizes understanding of civic principles, identification of community issues, and proposed solutions. Gabriella achievement has made her eligible to compete in the 2026 Regional Competition at the Historic Porter Theatre in Connellsville in April.
