Today, our middle school welcomed Jon Pritikin, Guinness World Record holder and motivational speaker, for an inspiring assembly! Through his personal story and incredible feats of strength, Jon shared a powerful message about overcoming adversity, standing up to bullying, and recognizing the value in ourselves and others. Thank you, Jon, for reminding our students that everyone matters!

🌿 Celebrating Innovation in Brownsville Area School District! 🌿 Today, Ms. Furlong and Ms. Kovach, along with students Gabriella Gudac, Kallie Kwasny, Logan Beeler, Jake Mayfield, and Gretchen Little, had the opportunity to participate in the 10th Annual Innovation Grant Showcase, hosted by IU1 at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum! Brownsville Area School District proudly showcased its project, “Outdoor Innovation Green Space: A District-Wide Living Classroom,” to 16 surrounding school districts, along with representatives from West Liberty University, Consortium for Public Education, and grant sponsors EQT and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. We are excited to share how our outdoor learning space is creating meaningful, hands-on educational opportunities for students across our district! 🌱 A special thank-you to our dedicated grant-writing team for bringing this vision to life: BAES: Lisa Swartz BAMS: Ms. Furlong and Mrs. Kovach BAHS: Mr. Hritz Thanks to Mr. Johnson from the IU and his students for constructing the benches and raised garden beds. 🌱🔬 Learning Beyond the Classroom! Mrs. Kovach’s 7th Grade Science classes are putting their new Greenspaces to work! Thanks to the IU Innovation Grant and Ready to Learn Grant, students now have an outdoor learning environment where they can apply science concepts in an authentic setting. Students are currently completing a measurement lab aligned with the new Pennsylvania STEELS Standards, with an emphasis on environmental science, scientific literacy, measurement, and real-world problem solving. Rather than simply reading about measurement and environmental systems, students are collecting data, making observations, communicating their findings, and using evidence to better understand the environment around them. 🌎📏📊 These Greenspaces are providing students with opportunities to connect science, literacy, engineering, and the natural world—turning our school grounds into an extension of the classroom! 🌿💚 #BAMS #7thGradeScience #STEELSStandards #EnvironmentalScience #ScienceLiteracy #OutdoorLearning #Greenspace #HandsOnLearning #IUInnovationGrant #ReadyToLearnGrant

These students worked throughout the year on their science projects, earned first place at regionals, and advanced to the state competition.
