Dear Parents/Guardians,

In conversations with the Board of Education and other county superintendents we have agreed to delay the start of the school year until after Labor Day.  The first day of classes for Brownsville students will be on September 8, 2020.

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program

Parents/guardians: click on the following online P-EBT Inquiry Form if you believe you should have already received P-EBT benefits

P-EBT benefit issuance for current SNAP and TANF EBT cardholders will be complete by June 8, 2020, if their school-aged child was receiving free or reduced-price meals before May 20, 2020. Current SNAP and TANF EBT Cardholders can check their card balance by calling 1-888-328-7366 or using

Free and reduced eligible school-aged students that are not SNAP/TANF or those receiving SNAP or TANF that became eligible for free or reduced-price meals after May 20, 2020, while P-EBT cards are being mailed and should be received by the end of June 2020.

The federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020 provides temporary benefits,
referred to as Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT), to families of school-aged children
who would receive free or reduced-priced meals if school was in session.

For each day school is closed, families of school-aged children certified as free or reduced
eligible will receive the equivalent of the free high rate for lunch and the severe need rate for
breakfast. Specifically, a family will receive $5.70 for each eligible school-aged child in their
family for each day school has been closed since March 16, 2020.

Kindergarten students for the 2020 - 2021 school year

Due to the closure of schools delaying Kindergarten Registration, we are reaching out to begin planning for the fall. We are asking all of those who intend to register a child for kindergarten for the first time in the Brownsville Area School District to complete the short form linked below.

This is not a formal registration; however, it helps us to begin the process for those children. Formal registration will tentatively take place in July 2020 -- actual date TBA.

This is for incoming KINDERGARTEN students for the 2020 - 2021 school year only. Thank you.

BASD Continuity of Education Plan

Our two primary goals are: 1) to preserve the safety and health of our students and staff, and 2) to keep K-12 students engaged in commensurately challenging learning activities during the extended school closure. It is a top priority of ours to ensure continuity in learning for all of our students using the best means we have available for teaching and learning exchanges.
