Parent Training Resources
Check this page often for new tutorials and resources that will help you learn about the digital tools our teachers will be using.
The Brownsville Area School District endorses the following digital tools which teachers may use to engage students:
Nearpod— a student engagement platform that enables teachers to create presentations that can contain Quizzes, Polls, Videos, Images, Drawing-Boards, Web Content and Virtual Field Trips. Teachers can use Nearpod to support student learning in a variety of ways, including:
Giving students opportunities for interaction and immediate feedback by having them draw on a map or diagram, respond to a poll question, post a note or image to a collaboration board, or take a multiple-choice quiz.
Taking kids on virtual field trips to national parks or different countries.
Helping students review key learning concepts by watching videos, reviewing notes, or taking their own notes.
Letting kids design their own slideshow presentations.
To learn more about Nearpod, please access the following resources:
Flipgrid—a tool that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.

Whiteboard.fi—an instant formative assessment tool which enables teachers to pose questions to the entire class and obtain live feedback from students.

You can access our Canvas by using a browser on a computer, or by installing the Canvas Parent app on your mobile device.
Parent accounts can:
Read announcements, view the calendar, and see the course syllabus.
Access a list of assignments with due dates.
See your child's assignments, but not his/her discussion posts
View your child’s scores on assignments in Canvas. Course grades will continue to be published in SIS.
Use the Inbox to contact the teacher.
Set up notifications to get emails or texts for announcements, assignments, etc.
View the instructional content in the course.
